A native of Chalkida, Greece Ioannis Kalantzis obtained a diploma of classical guitar with Evangelos Asimakopoulos at the National Conservatory of Athens. He studied music theory and composition with Yannis Ioannidis at Nakas Conservatory and electroacoustic music with Henri Kergomard at KSYME in Athens.
He continued his studies of composition and computer music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique of Lyon, France with Philippe Manoury, Marco Stroppa, Dennis Lorrain and Robert Pascal (diploma DNSM with distinction).
He also attended master classes with Phillipe Schoeller, Allain Gaussin, George Crumb, Klaus Hubert, Peter Eötvös, Gerard Grissey, Ivan Fedele, Michaël Lévinas, Jonathan Harvey, Gilbert Amy, Michael Jarrell, Francois Bayle, David Wessel, and Miller Puckette.
